BY SERGIO MARIO ILLUMINATO
I wake up every morning, my body sensing before the news arrives.
I don’t want to look, yet the images come anyway.
Skeletal children. Broken mothers.
Each image is an incurable wound beneath the skin.
Hunger is a weapon. Not a side effect.
Netanyahu uses it to empty Gaza.
132,000 children under five are threatened by malnutrition.
Over half a million people live in catastrophic conditions.
Every body that dies is a body left alone.
The UN calls it a war crime.
The West keeps funding it.
The Numbers of Complicity
$230 million – American silence
Paid by pro-Israel lobbies to Trump’s campaign.
It’s not just money: it’s financial blackmail, Congress control, media pressure.
Trump cannot oppose Netanyahu. He is subordinated, not free.
€72.1 billion – European complicity
The total of Europe-Israel trade in 2024.
An increase of over €1 billion compared to the previous year.
While famine advanced in Gaza, European profits grew.
Multinationals could not afford “moral issues.”
$4.8 billion – Italy complicit
Italy-Israel trade relations in the same year.
While “humanitarian” packages were sent,
other hands signed contracts with those who starve.
Aid from the sky, arms under the table.
Every figure weighs more than 132,000 children.
When life becomes a line in a budget, nihilism wins.
Nietzsche foresaw it.
Today the corpse of values lies on the stock market.
No justice. No dignity. Only money.
And me?
My body is here. I am an artist.
I believed beauty could save something in humanity.
That culture could act as a barrier.
Today I see everything on sale.
Faded values. Beauty reduced to a commodity.
How can you speak of beauty when flesh suffers?
When death passes through the hands of those who could act?
Perhaps art no longer consoles. It must wound. It must shout.
Say what others do not say, what the media hides.
The artist does not protect investments. Does not serve lobbies. Does not seek reelection.
The body is witness. The debt is to truth.
$230 million bought silence.
€72 billion outweigh the lives of 132,000 children.
$4.8 billion makes Italy complicit.
If art does not dare to shout this, it is useless.
But the body can resist.
It can become fragile and stubborn.
It can be the first line of change.
The call to act comes from the body.
It is physical memory.
It remembers what allowed us to survive in the past,
when everything was going wrong.
It is what remains when the mind falters,
when the world seems to lose all measure.
This is why VulnerarTe Magazine joins the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Vulnerable bodies together.
Boats to Gaza. Doctors, artists, activists, citizens.
No weapons. No protections. Only bodies that resist.
They carry aid. They denounce the blockade. They show the world that not everything is for sale.
Vulnerability is not surrender.
It is transformation.
It is visible resistance.
The body says: I exist. I will not be silent. I can change the course of things.
I remain vulnerable.
Only in the fragility of the body
can the possibility of transformation be born.
